ROOST79 HISTORY

 

R AVENS  ROOST #79 was established in April, 2004 at the Corinthian Lounge, Windsor Mill Road in Woodlawn, MD.

It initially began with  11  Corinthian regulars, however, by the time we were incorporated in May, 2004, we had over 90 members and growing at a rapid pace increasing our membership to 255 members....And that was just our first year. In addition, Roost #79 provides support and charitable contributions to many Woodlawn residents with a special emphasis to the homeless, abused adults and families who may be in need or have fallen on hard times.

 

Propose and Objectives:

The purpose and objective of this organization is to maintain a Non-Profit Corporation focused on the uniting of its membership in fellowship and service to the community at-large.  Our focus will be on local charitable, and educational scholarships, as well as those in need and other similar non-profit purposes through the promotion of the game of professional football.  Any contributions; either material or monetary, shall be used to support those local charities and/or educational scholarships and the needy as recommended and agreed upon by its membership.  This Roost shall not engage in any political activities whatsoever.

Ravens Roost 79 Inc. Scholarship Fund 


Purpose / Objective


It is the intent and objective of the Ravens Roost 79 Inc. Scholarship Fund to award two scholarships to students graduating from Woodlawn Senior High School and Milford Mill Academy. One scholarship will be awarded to a senior of each school. These awards shall be in the amount of one thousand ($1,000) to each and are intended to assist the students in the purchase of educational supplies such as books, writing materials and computer supplies. It is the intent of the committee to continue the awards during the four years of the selected student’s matriculation. However, the student must maintain the requirements set by Roost 79 Inc. 


Procedure


The committee will contact the principal or guidance counselor of the selected schools and obtain the names of students who are seniors in need of assistance and have reasonable scholarship (2.5.g.p.a.). The committee will review the application form developed by it and submitted by the applicant. After reviewing the applications submitted, the applicants who the committee finds worthy will be interviewed and the scholarship recipient selected. Scholarship awards will be paid to the students account at the institution that the individual is attending. It is also recommended by the committee that family members of any Ravens Roost are not be eligible for the scholarship.


Requirements for consideration

·  The applicant must be recommended by the chosen school’s administration.

·  The administration must articulate why the applicant has a financial need.

·  The applicant must have a 2.5 grade point average at the time of graduation.

There must be 3 letters of recommendation.

·The applicant must submit a two or three page essay (double spaced) titled what a college education means to me.

·The applicant must submit the application by the time designated by Roost 79.

Requirements after receiving the scholarship

·        The recipient must remain a full time student in order to remain eligible for further disbursement of the scholarship funds.

·        The recipient must submit to Roost 79, transcripts from the previous year before further scholarship moneys will be disbursed.

·        The recipient must provide documentation indicating registration for the year that the scholarship is provided.
